August Birthstones: Peridot And Spinel
Pretty rejuvenating colors, relaxing yet vibrant —in pinks, violets and greens comprise the colors of August’s birthstones.
Peridot is the primary birthstone; its green color signifies harmony and compassion. They are available in different cuts and a range of hues.

Spinel, August’s secondary birthstone, provides a variety of colors —favorites include vibrant reds and oranges, bubble gum pinks, and vivid violet. A fun fact: It wasn’t until the 18th century that spinels were classified differently than rubies. One famous example is The Black Prince ruby, which set in the Maltese cross in the front of the imperial state crown of England and is actually a spinel. It reportedly has a few different meanings, including joy and and renewed energy.
